It’s Never Too Late to Learn Piano

Dive Deep Into Your Musical Journey, Play by Ear, Rediscover Your Creativity, and Ignite the Creative Spirit Within! Let’s Transform Your Connection to Music and Let Your Soul Sing Its Song!

Dear Aspiring Pianists,

Have you ever felt a spark of desire to play the piano but thought to yourself:

  • “I’m too old to learn.”

  • “It’s too late for me to start.”

  • “Learning piano seems so overwhelming—it’s probably not for me.”

You’re not alone.

Many adults dream of sitting down at the piano and playing their favorite songs or developing their own creative outlet, but the idea of starting feels daunting. Maybe you’ve convinced yourself it’s only for kids, or that you’ll need years of hard practice to even sound good.

But here’s the truth: it’s not too late, and learning piano doesn’t have to feel intimidating or overwhelming.

Does This Sound Familiar?

• You’ve always wanted to play, but the thought of sheet music and traditional methods stops you before you even begin.

• You’re worried you won’t have enough time or focus to make real progress.
• You wonder if learning piano as an adult is even possible.

I understand how you feel.

I’ve worked with countless adults who felt the same way—until they discovered a method that worked for them. The good news is, you don’t need to know sheet music, and you don’t need years of experience. All you need is the right approach—and a willingness to try.

Imagine This…

Picture yourself sitting at a piano. You close your eyes, take a deep breath, and let your hands find the keys. You’re not staring at sheet music or worrying about the “right way” to play. Instead, you’re playing a song you love by ear, feeling the music flow naturally through your fingers.

You hear the melody you’ve always wanted to play, and for the first time, it feels effortless.

This isn’t just a dream—it’s exactly what the Play by Ear Method can help you achieve.

Introducing the Play by Ear Method

A simple, fun, and empowering way to learn piano designed specifically for adult beginners.

This isn’t about endless drills or memorizing sheet music. Instead, we focus on building your confidence and creativity by teaching you to:

  • Recognize melodies and chords.

  • Play the songs you love.

  • Develop a unique style that’s all your own.

Held at Lane Music in Brentwood, TN, our group lessons provide a supportive, social setting to help you thrive.

Why Group Lessons?

I get it—you might be wondering if group lessons are right for you. Will you get the attention you need? Will it feel too intimidating?

Here’s the truth: group lessons are a powerful way to learn.

Supportive Community: You’ll be surrounded by like-minded adults who share your goals. You’ll encourage each other, celebrate progress, and realize you’re not alone on this journey.

· Motivation and Accountability: Learning alongside others keeps you inspired and focused, helping you make consistent progress.

Focused Individual Time: Even in a group setting, you’ll have time to work on honing the songs you love and receive personalized guidance from me.

These lessons are designed for beginners who want to discover the joy of music and unlock their creative potential.

Worried About Making Mistakes in Front of Others? We Get It.

We understand that joining a group class might feel intimidating at first. The thought of playing around others can be nerve-wracking, especially if you’re afraid of making mistakes.

But here’s the good news: you’re not alone, and you’re in a space designed to support and encourage you every step of the way.

Practice at Your Own Pace: While you’re learning and honing what you’ve just been taught, you’ll have the option to practice with headphones, so you can focus without feeling self-conscious.

A Supportive, Comfortable Environment: Everyone in the class is starting from the very beginning, just like you. No one is there to judge—they’re there to learn, grow, and celebrate progress together.

No Spotlights Until You’re Ready: You’ll never be asked to play in front of others until you feel ready and confident.

Many of our students say they were nervous before their first class, but quickly found that the sense of community, shared goals, and encouragement from others made all the difference. You’ll discover that mistakes are part of the learning process—and with the right support, they’ll become stepping stones to your success.

Many of my students say the community aspect has been essential to their growth—it turns learning into something joyful and collaborative.

That’s why I created the Play by Ear Method—to give adults just like you a comfortable, encouraging space to start their musical journey with confidence.

My Name is Jennifer.

I’ve been teaching piano for decades, and I’ve had the privilege of guiding adults just like you to rediscover their creativity and fall in love with music.

I understand the fears that come with starting something new. But I’ve seen time and again how the Play by Ear Method transforms lives—helping students not only play their favorite songs but connect with music in a way that feels deeply personal and fulfilling.

This method isn’t about perfection or performance; it’s about finding joy, building confidence, and letting your creativity soar.

Don't Just Take My Word For It, Here’s What Real Students & Clients Have To Say About Learning Piano by Ear With Me:

Miss Jennifer has been teaching me for 8 years. She teaches me how to do things by ear. She lets me go at my own pace, but at the same time she pushes and motivates me to do things I wouldn’t normally want to try out, and she also taught me to play anything by ear so I can sit down and play anything I would like. She’s a great teacher overall, and I love playing with her!

~ Saanvi Narayan

Hi everyone, I wanted to tell you about Jennifer, and my piano classes with her. Learning to play the piano has always been a dream of mine, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have found Jennifer. From our very first lesson, her passion for music was evident. And not only does she possess an in-depth understanding of technical aspects of piano playing, but she also has the unique ability to translate complex musical concepts into easy to understand lessons. She also teaches you to listen to your favorite songs and play them on piano by ear.

One of the things I value most about Jennifer is her patience, and dedication, no matter how many times I stumbled over a piece or struggled with a particular scale, she always encouraged me to persevere, offering constructive feedback, innovative techniques to overcome challenges. She celebrates my victories, no matter how small and always pushes me to be a better piano player. If anyone is considering learning the piano, I wholeheartedly recommend Jennifer. And, with her guidance, you won’t just learn to play notes on a page, but you’ll embark on a transformative journey of musical discovery…

~ Arman

I have been practicing piano for five years now, but it didn’t really click to me until I met Miss Jennifer two years ago. Instead of looking at notes in a book every week, she has helped me feel the music, which matched my learning style. She challenges me and my abilities, and is patient, kind, funny, and just a beautiful soul. I am so grateful to have found Miss Jennifer to instill a love for music in my heart.

~ Collette Buccola

If you wanna learn how to play piano by ear, Miss Jennifer can help you play your favorite songs on the piano. It’s been really fun for me because Miss Jennifer has taught me all my favorite songs, and how to find them on the piano really easily.

~ Kess Avery

Hi my name is Julia. One of my favorite parts about piano with Miss Jennifer is being able to explore all different areas of it. Not just notation, but also playing songs by ear, and learning how to translate notes from one song, to the piano. You can learn to listen to music and tinker around to the point where you can create your own arrangements of the notes. I love to be able to play my favorite songs, and feeling like I’m really a part of creating that song. Music is also very emotional, and yes, I know this will sound cheesy, but it will make you wanna cry, laugh, and feel an indescribable sensation. Miss Jennifer has inspired me to go outside of my comfort zone and be able to challenge myself to become a great pianist. I’m so grateful that my parents are able to give me the gift of piano and that they found Miss Jennifer so that I could create different kinds of music that I never thought I could make. Thank you.

~ Julia Buccola

I've been with Jennifer for 5 years, and throughout those years she's taught me a lot of things--one of them being playing by ear. Before she taught me how to play by ear I would just listen to songs normally, but after she taught me, I can listen to almost any song and play it on the piano. Throughout these years it's been an amazing experience with her, and she's such a great teacher! I would definitely recommend her!

~ Cherry Panchanam

Miss Jennifer has been my son’s piano teacher for a very long time, and I think it’s very lucky that we found her - she’s exceptional at her art, but I was also trying to find someone who would be patient with curious, hyperactive kids who asked a lot of questions, and she would answer all of my son’s questions, though they were piano-related or not, and then she would bring him back to the lesson again. They built their own rapport over the years. As a piano teacher, like I said, she’s exceptional, she knows what she’s doing. She has extremely good teaching methods. She would teach him how to practice his lessons. She also taught theory and building repertoire. I think it’s helped him immensely in his musical journey, and even in life in general. It’s been fun having Miss Jennifer with us!

~ Smitha

“The experience working with Jennifer has been more than remarkable. Jett has excelled leaps and bounds playing by ear and using her method. He enjoys playing the piano since her method involves playing songs he knows. I’m so grateful for this experience and shocked at the music Jett is learning to play so quickly.”

~ Meredith

“Words don’t express adequately the exceptional qualities of Jennifer Graybill as a piano teacher. We found her after a few years with another teacher, during which time our four daughters learned the basics of piano but didn’t advance much beyond that, even with weekly lessons and daily practice. It was only a few months after switching to Jennifer that we noticed the tremendous strides each of our daughters had made in her music lessons. We credit this advancement entirely to Jennifer’s skill as a teacher.

She knows exactly how hard to push each child so that they excel in their abilities and exceed limitations. She is patient, gentle, and affirming, while also setting high expectations and ensuring her students are motivated to meet or exceed those expectations every week. She has taught our girls both how to play by ear and how to play classically. They can read advanced music and also play a song just by listening to it a few times. Jennifer has taught them all of the technical components of piano and has given them opportunities to perform before audiences and judges. Best of all, because of Jennifer’s passion, they too love music and take pride in the skill they have developed under her tutelage. I don’t know what we would do without Jennifer. She’s the best there is!”

~ Emily Prather

“Jennifer has been a dream to work with. She has taught my daughter how to play piano from knowing absolutely nothing to now, two years later, being able to read music, play with two hands, and play by ear. My daughter looks forward to her lessons with Jennifer because of the fun, playful energy she brings each week. Jennifer is so patient with my daughter, helps her overcome hurdles and keeps her motivated by choosing pieces that resonate with her.”

~ Erica Kyle

“Jennifer is a phenomenal piano teacher! She has worked to develop my two sons’ technical skills and growing appreciation for music. She has grown their ability to play by ear, which allows them to understand music better. The lessons also helps in other areas of their academic life – practicing helps calming them after a long day of school, clears their minds to study for a test, and so many other areas. The lessons with Jennifer have been invaluable to the growth of my sons and I would recommend her to anyone thinking of learning piano!”

~ Tricia Couts

“I highly recommend Jennifer as a piano teacher for children of all ages and skill sets. Her patient and engaging teaching style makes learning enjoyable, and she has a talent for nurturing a child's musical passion while building strong foundational skills. My children are excited to practice every morning and constantly looking out for songs Ms. Jennifer can teach them to play. Thank you for making music fun, Jennifer!”

~ Kyrstina Lenz

“Living in the Music City, we were searching for a teacher that could help our child learn to play Piano. We found Jennifer through a neighbor of ours and have been extremely happy ever since. The fact that she is very passionate in her craft and teaches music full-time is very evident in how she is able to deal with kids patiently and teach them nuances of music and playing a piano. Jennifer is also very flexible in how she works with the kids. Our child has definitely learnt to love music and very proud of how he plays piano in front of families & friends.”

~ Neemita Rajbhandari

“I like working with Miss Jennifer because she is fun and kind, unlike some strict piano teachers! My favorite part is that she helps me play music I hear on the radio. She will help me figure out the keys, and we write out the song ourselves instead of using a boring book.”

~ Bailey

Jennifer’s hybrid approach to piano has taught our son to play by ear, which keeps him engaged; but she also incorporates theory in reasonable doses that don’t discourage him. He writes his own songs and can play popular songs almost instantly by ear.

~ Ben

“Jennifer is an amazing piano teacher.  She keys in on what a piano student likes and encourages learning with kindness, patience, and enthusiasm. She has a deep knowledge of music theory and always finds the best path to help a student get through a tough section or technique in a piece of music.  She helped rekindle my love of piano and I made fast, consistent progress under her guidance.  I would recommend her to students of all ages.”

~ Lance Rea

“I have 3 children currently taking lessons with Jennifer, and plan to have my 4th child start when he is around age 5. My kids love her and so do I. They are learning and improving every week and they are having fun with it. I especially love that Jennifer not only works through lessons books with them, but she has been incorporating ear training as well and helping them play popular songs on the radio by ear. This helps keep things fun and balanced for them.

She is also not afraid to venture into new areas with the kids as they show interest. For example, my oldest recently joined a band, and Jennifer has been helping him work on his band songs as needed. He is also showing interest in songwriting, and she has been happy to help and encourage that. Additionally, my daughter has shown interest in playing and singing, but she is a little shy about it. Jennifer has been great at encouraging her and giving her the opportunity to sing and play.

We have recommended Jennifer to several of our kids' friends whose parents have approached us about starting piano lessons. Each have told us how pleased they are with how lessons are going and how grateful they are for the recommendation. We love her and can't recommend her highly enough.”

~ Leila Larson

“We have loved having Miss Jennifer teach our daughter piano lessons. Her passion for music and teaching shows in her enthusiasm and talent. When our daughter became interested in learning to play by ear, Ms. Jennifer’s teaching style helped her learn the skills to do so. It has been so special to watch our daughter grow and develop in playing the piano in a way that excites her and allows her to be creative.”

~ Heather Hope

“Jennifer helped my kids to improve and learn piano by a great stretch. They started off not knowing a single thing, but Jennifer helped them improve into the wonderful musicians they are today. Jennifer’s an amazing teacher, she is kind, and helped my kids get interested in learning piano. She is the best person to go to if you or someone else you knew wanted to learn piano.”

~ Sridevi Koya

“My 3 kids started piano with Miss Jennifer a few years ago, and what a few years it has been! I have watched my little ones go from having never touched a piano, to enjoying proficiently playing songs. Her way of teaching and engaging the children never ceases to amaze me, with unique tricks to keep their attention and encourage practice. I love seeing the way they are now able to pick out a few notes of songs, as the training of their ear under Miss Jennifer is growing. Her patience with them as they begin to understand music is unending, and I am so grateful that they have found a teacher they all adore! Piano is never a chore and always a joy in our house thanks to our favorite Miss Jennifer!”

~ Christen Thorpe

“My daughter has been learning piano with Ms Jennifer from the past 5 years and that has been the best thing that happened to my daughter. All we have seen is improvement every year. She is the coolest piano teacher we have met. She teaches kids with utmost patience and dedication and makes the classes where the kids expand their musical horizons and creativity.

All her classes make kids enjoy music and learn something new in every single class. She encourages kids to explore music and makes it all so much interesting for them. She has taught my daughter how to figure out the notes just by listening to any song.

The spring and winter recitals bring in so much confidence in kids and they look forward to performing their best. We cannot thank you enough, Ms Jennifer, for everything you have done, for introducing us to this amazing beautiful world of music, for being extremely considerate and thoughtful.

~ Sumita
